Personal Development

Kind Hearts, Inquisitive Minds
At Greenfields Primary School, we place personal development at the centre of our vision. For us, education goes beyond academic achievement—it is about nurturing children to become confident, compassionate, and capable individuals, prepared to flourish in a diverse and ever-changing society.

We provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every child is guided to make positive choices, develop strong values, and contribute actively to their community. Our curriculum is designed to promote essential life skills, emotional wellbeing, and respect for others, helping pupils to better understand themselves and the wider world.

We champion British values—democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance—alongside our own school values, which shape how we learn, behave, and treat one another each day. These principles are embedded through assemblies, classroom dialogue, and daily routines, ensuring they are lived and experienced meaningfully.

Our personal development programme includes:
  • Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) growth, encouraging reflection, empathy, and appreciation of diverse beliefs and cultures.
  • Mental health and wellbeing education, supporting resilience, healthy relationships, and informed lifestyle choices, with input from external partners such as BeeU and the School Mental Health Support Team (SMHST).
  • Preparation for the future, from fostering independence and learning behaviours in Early Years to teamwork, goal setting, and careers awareness in Key Stage 2.
We also prioritise:
  • Citizenship, inspiring pupils to be responsible, respectful, and active members of society.
  • Understanding protected characteristics, ensuring respect for differences in gender, race, religion, and disability.
  • The Prevent duty, equipping children to recognise and challenge extremist views safely.
  • Healthy relationships, taught through age-appropriate RSE to build understanding of consent, respect, and personal safety.
  • Physical health and lifestyle, encouraging healthy habits through PE, science, and PSHE.
  • Cultural awareness, celebrating diversity through curriculum themes, special events, and community partnerships.

By working hand-in-hand with families and the wider community, we ensure that personal development is consistent, meaningful, and impactful. Together, we are shaping tomorrow’s citizens—curious, confident, and compassionate learners, ready to make a positive difference in the world.
